Like the other inflatable boats in Sea Eagle’s lineup, the 10.6sr is built to meet the company’s exacting standards of quality. The rugged 10.6sr can carry 5 adults or 1200 lbs, making it a versatile and affordable option for a wide variety of boating applications. When deflated, the 10.6sr weighs in at only 91 lbs. and packs into a 46″ x 24″ x 10″ bundle that fits neatly into a Sea Eagle carry bag – an important consideration if storage space is at a premium or if weight requirements are critical.

Sea Eagle 10.6sr Sport Runabout Review: Boat Overview
Sea Eagle’s 10.6sr is designed along classic, fool-proof lines, making it a fun and dependable inflatable boat. There’s nothing unnecessary on the 10.6, and everything that Sea Eagle has included contributes to the efficiency that this sports runabout offers.
At its heart, the 10.6sr is an inflatable people carrier, and it is designed to do that job exceptionally well. The 10.6sr can be rowed, and it is hydrodynamically shaped for the least possible drag. Having said that — because of its outstandingly low weight-to-size ratio, the 10.6sr functions best when used as a powerboat.
The hull of the 10.6sr (exterior 10’6″ x 5’4″, interior 7’3″ x 2’8″) is constructed of five chambers: two side walls, the bow, the stern, and a four-inch inflatable drop stitch keel running back from the prow. Depending on what you are looking for, you can opt for either a molded plastic floorboard or a rigid drop stitch inflatable floor. The 10.6sr’s hull material – an 1100 Decitex reinforced material, Sea Eagle’s most trusted fabric for durable hull construction – is protected by a 3″ rubbing strake on the underside of the hull and the keel, for extra protection from abrasions and punctures.
The 10.6sr’s hull material, an 1100 Decitex reinforced material, is Sea Eagle’s most trusted fabric for durable hull construction. It’s protected by a 3″ rubbing strake on the underside of the hull and the keel for extra protection from abrasions and punctures.
All of the hull chambers of the Sea Eagle 10.6 sr Sport Runabout are fitted with one-way recessed valves and seamed with a combination of double overlapped high-frequency welded seams and high-strength glued joins. This makes the 10.6sr durable enough for even the most vigorous uses.
Other noteworthy features are the 5/8″ grab-lines running down each hull, two stainless steel D-rings perfect for towing, and five conveniently situated carry handles.
We really love the patented high-pressure dropstitch keel that Sea Eagle used on the 10.6sr.
For one thing, the buoyancy that the keel provides has the effect of lifting the bow and letting the 10.6sr ride over waves rather than plowing through them. This, together with the design of the rounded tubes at the stern, brings the 10.6sr to a plane fast and lets you quickly reach high speeds.
The second great advantage of the dropstitch keel is the performance it adds to the 10.6sr’s handling. Although it’s a mere 4″, that’s enough to turn the 10.6sr into a zippy and responsive boat that’s stable enough to perform well in a wide variety of sea conditions.
Sea Eagle also offers a choice of floors on the 10.6sr: a useful feature that allows you to customize your boat to best suit your requirements.
For applications where weight is an important consideration, Sea Eagle’s drop stitch floorboard is suggested. Featuring EVA foam foot pads and inflating hard enough to provide a surface you can stand on, this option makes the 10.6sr Sport Runabout the ideal ship-to-shore tender for yachts, being both lightweight and convenient. The dropstitch floor inflates up to 15 psi, weighs only 15 lbs., and stays in the boat, relieving you of the nuisance of storing it separately when you pack the boat away.
If you’re not too fussy about weight savings, you could opt for the molded polyethylene floorboards. These nearly indestructible plastic floorboards slot easily together to provide an ultra-strong, ultra-rigid, non-slip surface that ensures excellent structural integrity and remains resistant to sun, salt water, and chemicals. This option weighs a bit more than the dropstitch floor (45.5 lbs.), but it’s a superior choice for many applications and is much to be preferred to plywood floorboards (which delaminate over time) and aluminum ones (which are easily dented and retain heat).
Sea Eagle 10.6 sr Packages
For the convenience of their customers, Sea Eagle has released the 10.6sr in four basic packages. Each configuration comes with either the lightweight inflatable dropstitch floor or the more robust and durable polyethylene version with aluminum stringers. The entire 10.6sr range comes complete with a pair of collapsible AB255 oars (5’5″), an aluminum bench seat (this can be mounted forward for rowing, or aft for motoring), a bow-mounted nylon storage bag with four quick-release straps, an A41 foot pump, a repair kit, and an inflatable boat carry bag. In addition, all packages that include the dropstitch floor are supplied with a dual-action stand-up pump with a built-in pressure gauge.
- The Sea Eagle 1.6sr Deluxe/Drop Stitch Deluxe Package includes everything you need to get onto the water. Easy to assemble and unbelievably compact, this a great starter kit. The transom of the 10.6sr can support a 15hp engine (maximum weight 126.6 lbs.), and it’s fitted with splash guards to keep you dry. Simply supply your own outboard and you’re ready to go, or pop the oarlocks out and start rowing.
- If you know that you’re going to be motoring more than rowing, why not take a look at the Sea Eagle 1.6sr Swivel Seat/Drop Stitch Swivel Seat Packages? In this configuration, the aluminum bench seat moves forward and is replaced at the stern by a sport runabout swivel seat kit. Not only is the swivel seat far superior when it comes to controlling the tiller, but the comfortable padded construction makes it easier for you to spend more time on the water.
- For protection from sun and rain, Sea Eagle offers the Sea Eagle 1.6sr Swivel Seat & Canopy/Drop Stitch Swivel Seat and Canopy Packages. Both of these kits include Sea Eagle’s small-boat canopy, which provides much-needed protection from the elements when you’re fishing or cruising.
- And for those of us who don’t already have an outboard, there is always the Sea Eagle 1.6sr Swivel Seat Honda Motor/Drop Stitch Swivel Seat Honda Motor Packages, which comes with a Honda 9.9 four-stroke engine. The Honda has an external fuel tank and fuel pipe, and is covered by a five-year manufacturer’s warranty.
If you’re looking for a basic dinghy, tender, or just something to have some fun with, the 10.6sr is hard to beat. Its great handling, sturdy construction, and efficient design are NMMA and EC certified, and the boat is covered by Sea Eagle’s 180-day return policy and comprehensive 3-year warranty.
If you’re wondering how practical the 10.6sr really is when it’s out on the water, consider that it’s used throughout China and the Indian subcontinent as the inflatable of choice for police, fire, and disaster management agencies of all kinds.
Whether you’re looking for a runabout for fun or something a bit more serious, the Sea Eagle 10.6sr boat offers you an affordable combination of performance, convenience, and quality that is hard to beat in an inflatable dinghy.
